The Blue Faced Honeyeater, I produced this work using 9b graphite pencil and stick with watercolour paint on 300 gsm paper, how I came to deciding to produce this piece was when we were walking in the Cairns Botanical Gardens one day, when my friend spotted a blue faced honeyeater exploring the multitude of different flowers that were open in the gardens at that time of year, we kept our distance knowing that birds have a distance that you may be to them and any closer they are gone, as we wanted to observe this beautiful bird as it went on its business we watched from a safe distance, It was at about this time I started to get an inkling of an idea for a new piece which solidified when I spotted the beautiful little yellow orchid high on a branch, my mind's eye immediately joined the honeyeater to the orchid and so this piece was born. I love using the Chiaroscuro effect for the background which highlights the watercolour used for the orchid and the bird's plumage especially the blue skin on his face.
