This work is the first in a series showcasing Far North Queensland Bird habitats, it was an easy decision to start with the canopy of the rainforest as I had my studio gallery located in Kuranda, with the rainforest all around me. I would often hear the catbirds calling high in the canopy. Producing this work in acrylics allowed me to develop my skills. A good example of this is the misty background, I was quite apprehensive just before applying the misty fog, if it went wrong then long hours of fine meticulous detail work would be lost, and I would have to sand it back and start again but taking a step in faith, I went ahead and to my great relief it worked out exactly as planned. It came out just how I had visualized it would look like, choosing the Cairns Birdwing Butterfly was also amazing as, at the time, I was thinking what I wanted the bird to be looking at, when a Cairns Birdwing almost flew into my studio, almost as if to say here I am, needless to say she was put in and she balanced the composition perfectly, I love the rainforest and hope and pray that thru my artwork others can also learn to love not only the rainforest but all of nature , it is so diverse, we must look after it.
