My inspiration to produce the Leaf Tailed Gecko was when I came across one of these amazing creatures on a night walk up here in the far north of Queensland. Its markings and colourings were so amazing that I had to know more. I did some research on them and to me dismay I discovered that they are on the endangered species list and then using reference photos I had taken, I produced this piece. My hope is that we as people, who are custodians of this beautiful planet break the chains and shackles binding us to the old way of thinking, that nature is ours to plunder. But to realize that we have an obligation to look after this planet we call home, the home not only for us but also for all of nature, let us come together and help nature. I really like the Chiaroscuro effect I used in the background, giving the look of nighttime which enhanced the light and dark within the piece. Been a monotoned piece means it will fit into any Decore of a person's home. This piece was very exacting for me to create the texture of the Geckos skin and the way the light played on him, all this helped to bring him to life.
