Artwork Description

This painting depicts the native flowers that bloom across the Australian desert, especially after rain and in the cooler months. Many of these flowers signify particular things, such as an abundance of bush food or the signalling of particular times of year. Some flowers, like those of the kalin-kalinpa (honey grevillea), can be eaten for a sweet treat, or brewed into a cordial to enhance the flavour of water.

Artist Bio

Keziah Brady is a young artist who lives in Kaltukatjara (Docker River). She was born in Alice Springs and grew up in the APY Lands in South Australia in the communities of Pukatja and Amata. She remembers going to the art centre in Amata and watching her nana, Nureena Burton, paint. This is how she started painting. She loves spending her time in the country around Kaltukatjara and painting the wildflowers she finds.
