Artwork Description

Continuing an affair with proteas, this oil on canvas is still very wet, ready for shipping end January 2020. Every painting or artwork has a back story, this one started out as an abstract odd shape that just wasn’t working as I’d imagined it, so gave in and gave up and turned it into its current form. You may notice two yellow shapes near the stem and leaves, these are from the painting below, thought they make it a little more interesting to retain so left in place. Three side are painted in the background colour and the right side is white, no particular reason other than I liked the idea at the time. (If interested in this work and would prefer all side the same colour – happy to oblige).

As the paint is still wet, it is difficult to photograph, the wetter areas pick up the light and reflect back making the colours particularly the background look slightly patchy. As it dries over the next weeks I’ll update the image to be more accurate. Will be supplied with final coat of satin varnish.

Artist Bio

Many of my earliest memories revolve around art, watching my father paint - only horses and staring up lost in the paintings on the walls of my grandparents house on the family grazing property in the wild country of the Monaro, to the North Shore in Sydney, back and forth, we had the best of both worlds. Three children and work took most of my time and opportunities to practice were spread thinly for many years. A 'temporary' move to Burleigh Heads, Qld 28 years ago still has me firmly entrenched. Annual travel through Europe for work mostly in France and Italy and the opportunities to visit so many outstanding galleries, the studios of Renoir, Monet and co rekindled the desire to seize the day and spend more time painting and creating. Unapologetically self taught, with a workshop here and there over the years, I remain a dabbler, rotating thru sculpture, drawing, printmaking, mosaic, painting and back again. Haven't settled for any particular style of painting, just follow the whim and vision of the moment. A few commissioned mosaic murals notwithstanding I paint mainly for pleasure.
