My still life with a ship

Inspired by the influence of the impressionist painters who painted from life this piece was sketched initially with paint directly onto the canvas from an arrangement of flowers bought in from the garden, and painted immediately. The result is fresh and loose with the added element of a bird and ship, included to enhance the scene and give it a theatrical quality.
This still life continues a theme of native plants and animals and the slightly mysterious nature of things (like a ship) that appear where they should not. I like to make little worlds with my paintings visual worlds that are stories still being written. In this way the viewer begins a journey of there own interpretation.
