Charles Darwin said ‘It is not the strongest that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.’
That idea resonates deeply with me. Quite often what we see is a collision between wildlife and domestic life… between nature and agriculture… between living creatures and the machinery shaping our world. As we push further into their spaces, adaptation becomes not a choice, but a necessity.
The landscapes in the 'Adaptation' collection explore humanities mark making on the land. Fences, roads, crops, livestock and increasingly intense storm systems, alongside echoes of ancient wonders like dormant volcanoes and relics of forests, reminding us they once ruled.
In 'Nevermore', a raven surveys a landscape charred by bushfires. Occurences we see becomming more intense and jmore frequent - another cause for adaptation.
