Artwork Description

A contemplative study of form, colour and memory, Held Earth presents a subtle assemblage of fragmented shapes reminiscent of river-worn stones, suspended against a pale, neutral ground. Muted tones of olive green, yellow ochre, and deep red punctuate the composition, evoking the quiet sediment of time and the lingering traces of natural forces. Each fragment seems both weighty and suspended, as if captured in a moment between motion and stillness, erosion and repose.
The painting invites reflection on the tension between permanence and transience, grounding the viewer in an elemental landscape where colour, form, and space coexist in quiet dialogue. Held Earth is less a depiction than a meditation,an abstract testament to the textures, rhythms, and enduring presence of the earth itself.
The detailed technique used to create this artwork produces a soft textural element which adds depth and intricate details.

Drawing inspiration from the great Expressionist artists, Kristine approaches abstraction as a language of feeling, using colour, mark-making, and texture to evoke the sensory experience of nature rather than its literal form. Each piece becomes a dialogue between the external landscape and the artist’s inner world, translating light, movement, and emotion into visual energy.

Kristine’s practice is a continual exploration of colour’s power to communicate beyond words. Her work represents a vibrant meditation on the beauty and vitality of the Northern Rivers environment.
