Artwork Description

This is a beautiful, Giclee print of my original painting of two Tawny Frogmouths. It is one of a series of only 10 Fine Art prints.
These two amazing birds have kept us company for the last 7 years- often sitting on the roof beams right near our front door. They also have a favourite tree right outside the window.
They are fascinating birds- and their camouflage is incredible. They are almost invisible during the day- sitting perfectly still, with heads pointing up to the sky, and looking exactly like broken tree branches. Their plumage- in silvery greys and browns- blends in perfectly with the colours and textures of tree bark.
It is only when they slowly turn their heads and open their eyes to look at you- with their baleful stare and beautiful, luminous, orange eyes- that you suddenly realise they are there.
We feel incredibly privileged that this pair of Tawny Frogmouths (they form partnerships for life) - have chosen to live so close to us.
I really enjoyed painting this artwork- using the plein air technique of working directly from life. I used expressive and spontaneous brush work to capture the textures and colours of their feathers, and of the trees around them.
I hope you enjoy this painting as much as we do.

Artist Bio

I find the process of making art to be a process of discovery- a journey filled with mistakes, re-invention, spontaneity struggle, perseverance, excitement, resolution .
Of starting of with one idea which then resolves itself into something very different and unexpected- opening many new and wild paths to explore.
I am currently working through many forms of art- from realistic, to expressive and abstract.
In realism, I find I particularly enjoy working from life- using the plein air painting technique to depict trees, birds, and landscapes.
I also really love the spontaneity of life drawing.
Thanks for looking at my art
