Fruit from the Old Pear Tree

With thanks to Ed Ellington for his wonderful photo, I originally thought these were figs, only to be told by Ed that they are pears. You can see from the branch that the tree must be old and narly. The fruit looks amazing but I wonder how they taste? The black background certainly highlights the amazing colour of the pears.
