Mother Earth. ( Element Earth )
Continuing my reflections on the elements, for me, the element of Earth embodies the Great Mother, a powerful primordial force from which all have emerged and to which they will return. She is capable of much and, like a caring mother, can heal and take the blows upon herself, but she can also punish. In Slavic folklore, the expression "Mother - Moist Earth" emphasizes fertility and the connection with heavenly moisture. The Earth gives birth from the thunderer Svarog ; watered by rain, it becomes fertile.
As Christianity spread, due to syncretism in popular consciousness, a parallelism emerged between the image of Mother Earth and the image of the Virgin Mary (as well as St. Paraskeva Friday), along with her protective and nurturing role. But traces of Great Mother Earth and pre-Christian religions are remains in languages. .And appeals to her in many languages refer to the Earth with sense of a Great Mother- Motherland, dear mother, moist Earth Mother, Great Mother in paganism.
