Artwork Description

Kurt’s paintings have cinematic quality whilst incorporating elements of contemporary realism. Kurt’s paintings depict scenes from a perceived golden era, of people living everyday lives during the 1940s to the 1960s.

In his current work, Kurt explores the subtleties of human emotional responses and captures people ‘caught in a moment’. These images invite the observer to question and explore the rich lives and stories captured on canvas and, in doing so, to reflect upon our own mortality.

Kurt is influenced by a wide variety of artists including Alex Katz, Edward Hopper, Felix Vallotton and Richie Fahey. Like these artists, he prefers to use a limited colour palette with each colour and tone being carefully considered to create emotion and atmosphere whilst referencing mid- century design.

Artist Bio

Kurt Engledow is an investment-ready, multi-award-winning contemporary artist based in Perth. Formally trained at London’s prestigious Goldsmiths College, Engledow’s high-demand figurative realism makes him a compelling acquisition for serious art collectors globally.

Immersed in fine art since childhood, his mastery of acrylic on canvas combines technical precision with profound emotional depth. His current, highly sought-after portfolio explores nostalgia, sexuality, and masculinity. By reimagining found mid-century photography, Engledow strips away the past to reveal timeless narratives of human vulnerability. His signature style—marked by cinematic lighting and selective palettes—appeals directly to lovers of modern realism.

Despite a low-profile approach to promotion, his work has achieved recognition through exhibitions in London and Perth. Original paintings by this rapidly appreciating artist are held in private collections worldwide and are available for acquisition via Bluethumb.
