Artwork Description

A simple portrait is surrounded by loose, abstract layers of green and subtle movement. It sits on a kind of edge, hinting at depth just beyond what’s visible.

Artist Bio

I have been making art on and off for most of my life. In high school I was particularly good at life drawing, I went on to become a graphic designer working in both Australia and the UK and then returned to study in 2007 to complete a Bachelor of Visual Art, majoring in Painting. Painting and creating are part of what gives me balance in life, and I try to do it daily. Where I give, it always gives back.

My art studio is based in Southeast Queensland, Australia - close to the beach and surrounded by birds and trees. I love to travel and get into mountains to run and hike when I can. This close connection with natural shapes and forms comes through in my art.

My work is a continual process of creation, review, and re-evaluation. I work with both acrylic paint and oils, creating mostly abstract landscape and figurative work. Paint was not always my friend, but I have built a relationship with it that continues to grow and evolve, as I continue to problem solve. Most often my work evolves as I go, so I don’t always know what the outcome will be, but I am always seeking to finish up with something I am happy with both aesthetically and energetically. I think this evolution process helps to bring depth and a visual narrative to the artwork. Ultimately, my goal is for the viewer to feel captivated and inspired.

I sold hundreds of abstract landscape works over several years before joining Bluethumb and my art sits in collections and homes across Australia and in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Norway. I have also dabbled in some portraiture work, succeeding in becoming a finalist multiple times in the Neumann Portrait Prize and the Dean Cogle Portrait Prize, and I plan to enter into more art prizes over the next year. Look out for my In The Studio updates!
