Artwork Description

Finalist in the Unley Artprize, Adelaide.

The humble pumpkin is one of the more resilient fruits that has become a symbol of prosperity, growth and abundance. Their peels protect them from the environment. Their vines seek nutrients and anchor them, protecting them from wind and allowing them to grow to reach the sun.

Made from fine white porcelain with a white glaze, resilience has a lovely tactile quality, making it a perfect sculpture for your home.

Artist Bio

Kylie Nichols is a Sculptor and Installation artist. Nichols' art practice explores everyday objects, both natural and manufactured, drawing on science and the human condition.

In Nichols latest ceramic works, she pares back the colours of the object to soften the focus. Playing with the perceptual construct is an attempt to influence the way the viewer perceives the object.

Fascinated by the dichotomy of liquid to solid states, casting and mould making are often employed. Material investigation and process are both crucial components in the development of her work.

Nichols has a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Design and was a residency recipient at the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China (Helpmann Academy) in 2019. Shortlisted Unley Art Prize 2021. Based in Adelaide, South Australia, her work is held in numerous private collections.
