My name is Kylie Taylor and I am the artist behind Little Sista Studio. Little Sista Studio is an art studio located in the idyllic town of Cooroibah, just north of Noosa on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of Queensland Australia. Still in its infancy, the goal is to create a creative art school to enable me to eventually teach from home, but also designing a professional space specifically for my own art making.
In December of 1999, I graduated from the University of Newcastle with a double bachelor degree in Arts (Visual Art) and Teaching with the dream of becoming an artist and teacher. In 2000, I had itchy feet and was chasing a new adventure, so packed up my belongings and drove over the border to the lovely Sunshine Coast of Queensland. I am lucky to have called this region home ever since.
For the majority of the past 20 years, I have been working as a Visual Art and Photography teacher, employed by Education Queensland working in the Secondary School sector. I have thoroughly enjoyed this career as a teacher, and while I am currently still teaching, I have a burning desire to create my own artwork. As a teacher, it has been very hard to find the time and creative energy to create my own art, so in 2021 I reduced my teaching load to a part time fraction to allow me space to create my own artwork.
So much of my day as a teacher is 'planned', 'timetabled' and 'carefully executed' that as an artist I am drawn to working in more spontaneous way . I am inspired by colour, movement, space, shapes, shadows and sounds which enable me to work in an more intuitive way. I allow the art medium to make its own path along the surface, allowing the lines it creates to then form other, more defined shapes and patterns. Layer upon layer the work eventually evolves.
I am only at the start of my career as an 'artist', having spent so much time and energy teaching others to create their own sense of self through art. However, I am dedicated to pursuing this new career path- one artwork at a time.
Thank you for finding out a little more about me and 'Little Sista Studio'.
