Kym Breeze is a prolific artist, who has exhibited in Toowoomba, Sydney and regional areas. In September 2019 she painted a live sized cow that featured on the lead float in the Carnival of Flowers Parade in Toowoomba Queensland, her Cow was then auctioned with the proceeds going to a local charity Emerge, which supports youths at risk.
The main influences in her art are colour, texture and life experiences. Playing with colours, pushing herself to find new ways to create art that inspires others.... that's why she does what she does!
A versatile artist, Kym is always experimenting with new colours, textures and utilising new tools. Nothing is safe from this creative artist. The handyman’s screwdriver, grandma’s knitting needles, old toothbrushes and hairbrushes that create flicks and textures... Kym will find a use for them all
Being a Colourist allows Kym to paint in many genres and her first tutor, the late John Perham, artist and Bush poet, taught her oils, pastels and acrylics. These are her mediums of choice and Kym often works on several pieces at a time, allowing for the layers to dry on each canvas before they are then completed. Her acrylic paintings are often mixed with textures from paper, impasto gels and inks, allowing her to experiment and push her art in new directions.
Kym’s art and story were featured in the Australian Artist’s Palette Magazine, along with a demonstration of one of her favourite mixed media pieces. With three solo exhibitions and many joint exhibitions over her career, Kym is currently developing a new body of work and finds working in a collaborative manner with a co-working space keeps her inspired and on track to achieve her goals.
Kym has been collected locally and internationally.
From the Artist
I love colour and when asked what “style” I paint in I have to say I am a colourist more than anything else. The late John Perham once said to me “Kym no matter where you go or who you learn from, never let them change the way you use colour, it is who you are!” I learned so much from John and when I paint I think of him often, he was an amazing artist and gentleman.
My style varies, it can be abstract, realistic and everything in between. Being creative is something I love and sharing my work with others is one of the benefits of this, whether you like a piece or not, my joy is that you stopped for a moment and thought about the art and it created some response within you.
People will often find hidden messages or meanings in my art, it creates an emotional response in them which is wonderful as I create them as I feel and see them, they are meant to brighten a wall and inspire people to just stop and enjoy. Life is my main inspiration, in all its colours, and textures.
