Roads

I felt inspired to create this piece with fond memories of my time living in Vanuatu. The main island is filled with colourful tropical plants, flowers, the clearest water to swim in, friendly locals and abundant fruits and vegetables in the market gardens. A feast for the senses. Everything happens in island time and a fast-paced lifestyle is unheard of. Meandering roads leading to villages and palm trees to laze under after a swim and lunch. Heaven.

I have been making art in one form or another for most of my life. I have a small garden studio in South-East Queensland, Australia.

My paintings are intuitive and I have no set plan other than an idea of a colour palette. More often than not, I will start with a scribble and some mark making and see where this takes me. Somewhere along the way and after many, many layers of paint, the work shows itself in a rather unexpected way.

My aim for my artwork is to create something bright, cheerful and energetic. I work with acrylics and mixed media on paper, canvas and board and I am drawn to old and weathered surfaces and places with a sense of history and fascination. Many of my paintings are inspired by my travels and lived experiences.
