This painting is done in gouache, which is an opaque watercolour medium that allows for these striking illustrative artworks.
If there's a moment where I feel a great urge to paint, but I have nothing in mind to put to paper, I inevitably end up painting owls. I don't know if I find them easier to portray, or if I'm just fond of the muted colours but the incredible detail of their feathers, but I love bringing them to life.
