Red Crown in a Sea of Gold

This painting is done in gouache, which is an opaque watercolour medium that allows for these striking illustrative artworks.

I'm very fond of this piece. It's busy, but the colour palette is limited enough that the balance isn't impacted. I also managed to maintain a brushy and loose format despite my tendency to go overboard with the details so I consider this painting to be a success. Most of all, I like that I managed to capture some personality in this pretty little bird.

This would look great in a white frame with white matting.
