Artwork Description

This piece aims to capture the vibrant energy of Melbourne on a sunny afternoon as seen from Nicholson Street, Fitzroy, looking toward the city skyline and the edge of Carlton Gardens. Painted in 2024 as part of a limited three part series exploring Melbourne-based cityscapes, this work explores the tension between realism and abstraction through a modern impressionist lens.

The composition layers historic and contemporary architecture, with skyscrapers rising behind low-rise terraces and bustling traffic, while utility poles and shadows crisscross the scene to create a sense of depth. Although the perspective suggests realism, I attempted to exaggerate some proportions and create some playful distortions through the use of chromatic colours and contrast to evoke a lively, alternative atmosphere.
This experimentation with colour and form reflects my deep interest in urban dynamism - the way cities pulse with movement, history, and cultural overlap. The brushwork is expressive, using a vibrant palette, and the overall mood warm, offering viewers both a familiar Melbourne landmark and a reimagined, almost whimsical interpretation of city life.

Artist Bio

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my profile.

My journey into art began in 2019, during a time when the world slowed down and many of us had a chance to reflect on what truly matters. For me, it all started with a simple book that encouraged drawing and painting from observation. What began as an experiment quickly turned into a passion. I started with charcoal and pencil sketches—portraits and still life—and soon found myself exploring acrylics and oils. The moment I picked up a brush, something clicked. Creating art became more than a hobby; it felt like a calling.

I’m a self-taught artist, with no formal training—just a deep curiosity and a drive to create. The only early artistic influence in my life was my grandmother, who began painting in her seventies as a way to cope with the loss of my young niece. Her story reminds me that it’s never too late to start something meaningful.

Originally from Budapest, Hungary, I moved to Australia as a teenager. My work is often shaped by both these cultures, and the places and people I’ve encountered along the way. I don’t follow a strict process or plan what to paint ahead of time. Inspiration strikes in a moment—whether it’s an urban landscape, a fleeting feeling, or a piece of modern design—and I follow that impulse straight to the canvas.

My style leans toward modern impressionism, and I’m constantly experimenting, letting curiosity guide me. I aim to create pieces that evoke a sense of beauty, calm, and reflection—offering a glimpse into the way I see the world, with a contemporary twist.

Thank you again for stopping by. I hope my work speaks to you in a way that words sometimes can’t.
