Artwork Description

**“FILTRO DE BARRO”** is part of my ongoing series **“Brasil com S”**, where I transform everyday Brazilian symbols into the main characters of the composition.

For this piece, I wanted to celebrate one of the most iconic objects found in Brazilian homes: the traditional clay water filter. More than a functional object, it represents hospitality, childhood memories and the quiet rituals of everyday life. By isolating it from its familiar setting, I invite the viewer to see it through a new lens, appreciating its simple form, rich colour and cultural significance.

The contrast between the bold blue background and the warm terracotta tones of the filter creates a striking yet balanced composition. While the artwork remains graphic and minimal, the hand-painted textures and layered acrylic paint add warmth, depth and character to the piece.

This artwork was created using acrylic paint on canvas board and finished with protective varnish.

Its vibrant colours and timeless subject bring a sense of warmth, nostalgia and Brazilian identity to any space, celebrating the beauty found in ordinary objects that quietly shape our daily lives.

Artist Bio

Laura Schiavinato is a Brazilian contemporary artist exploring feminine archetypes through surreal portraiture. Working across acrylic, gouache and digital media, she creates striking female figures defined by strong gazes, symbolic details and subtle otherworldliness.

Blending softness with attitude, her work moves between fantasy, mysticism and contemporary culture. Each character exists as an alter ego, powerful, introspective and slightly untamed, inviting viewers into immersive dreamlike worlds where femininity feels both intimate and formidable.
