Artwork Description

I have not seen my country, and family in Latvia for four years. I needed to process this grief. Connecting with the stories of the First People of Australia helped.
See a “Mother”, holding a new life. What will it be like?
Reaching up towards the stars, gives me hope.
An Indigenous friend once told me: "We are all a "Stolen Generation". We are all displaced and disconnected from the Land.“
Aren't we all the same? Bleeding red, heart beating synchronized with the Earth itself, doing our best to find the way “home”.
The ancient traditions of my country of origin embody similar values as those of the First People of Australia, treasured for thousands of years. Our bodies are of the Earth. The sculpture ensemble “Exodus” represents our connection to the Spirit of Land. The Land is of the utmost fundamental for all living beings. From the remnants of the past emerged an impression - a portrait of the people from this Land.
"Exodus" limited edition(/20) bronze sculptures are available for commission. Please allow minimum of 4 weeks production time.

Artist Bio

Laura Vecmane is a contemporary visual artist who has been expressing herself through several classical and experimental creative media - painting, mixed media, ephemeral art, ceramics, and sculpture since 2002.
Laura Vecmane was born in Latvia. She feels blessed to have had such origins, but life has taken her to many other beautiful places.
The early years of her artistic career were spent in Europe, studying art in Latvia, Denmark, and Spain. The multicultural influences, impressions of wild Nature, radiant light, rich and vivid colors, and scenes of daily life have been significant inspirations for Laura’s art. While studying the contemporary, Laura finds herself to be an old-school soul of timeless art. Looking at many great famous artists has given her the confidence not to define herself by just one art medium.
Laura resides and works in Maleny, Sunshine Coast, where she explores the motives of native Australian fauna and flora, still life, interiors, and people through her paintings. Laura often travels for many creative adventures overseas and life on land has inspired her many collaborations with Nature, and she feels passionate about further developing her artistic skills as a sculptor and painter.
