Artwork Description

This small piece was a response to the local mudstone in the area of Melbourne close to me. I was excited by the range of earth tones from light beiges and putty through to burgundy and chocolate tones.
This piece is perhaps more focused in the yellow oxide and ochres with hints of darker smudges. Linework and marks made in pastel and colour pencils show the cracks and crevices in the natural rock.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am self taught and mostly inspired by interior design and fashion magazines that I devour and re-visit regularly. They open my eyes to different colour combinations, compositions, shapes and patterns that can be used to explore various themes and ideas.

Though I tend to favour acrylic paint; exploration and experimentation of different mediums and tools are important to me and so who knows where this wonderful journey will take me. I am keen to tackle oil paints next - that thick buttery texture is something I need in my life.

My work is abstract and mostly gestural and intuitive in nature. I love texture, brushstrokes, layers and movement. I am still working out my style but, I promise I am having fun while I figure it out and I hope that is communicated in my pieces.
