Bello draws inspiration from the aged and weathered walls of Venice, blending stark contrasts and rich textures into a striking composition. The upper portion is dominated by layered whites with subtle tonal variations, speckled with faint marks and hints of colour, mimicking the worn, cracked, and sun-bleached surfaces of centuries-old Venetian plaster. The lower section is a bold, vibrant blue, reminiscent of the canals' iconic waters lapping against the city's historic structures. The horizon-like division between the two sections creates a sense of stability and balance, echoing the juxtaposition of architectural decay and enduring beauty.
I was inspired by wandering through Venice’s narrow alleys, observing the interplay of light on worn surfaces and the rhythmic movement of water below. This piece encapsulates that experience, inviting the viewer to step into the city’s poetic decay and vibrant soul.
