Artwork Description

The way it is radiates warmth and light through its luminous palette of soft yellows, creams, and hints of pastel pinks and oranges. Brushstrokes and textures create an impressionistic composition, evoking a sunlit meadow in full bloom or the golden glow of a late summer afternoon. Drips and delicate marks add a sense of fluidity and movement, while the layered tones suggest depth and organic growth. Subtle accents of grey and white provide contrast, balancing the vibrant energy with moments of stillness.

The piece draws inspiration from the fleeting beauty of nature, specifically the golden hues of fields basking in sunlight or the hazy, dreamlike quality of a warm summer day. I wanted to capture the sensation of being surrounded by light and life, where the boundaries between colours and forms blur, reflecting the impermanence and interconnectedness of the natural world.

The way it is will lift a room by:
• Brightening and energising: the warm yellow tones infuse a room with uplifting energy and positivity, making it perfect for living areas or creative spaces.
• Evokes nature’s calm: its organic textures and light-filled composition bring the outdoors inside, fostering a sense of tranquillity and connection to nature.
• Adds visual warmth: works beautifully in spaces that need warmth, especially when paired with neutral or cool-toned furnishings.
• Encourages optimism and reflection: The light, airy feel of the painting creates a harmonious balance that inspires both joy and introspection.

Artist Bio

laura is a self-taught abstract artist whose work is shaped by the experience of relocation. after moving to Australia in 2011, she became aware of the absence of history and lived time that had shaped her earlier surroundings in europe. painting became a way to respond to this absence, allowing her to hold onto history through the work when it was no longer part of her surroundings.

working mainly at large scale, laura treats painting as both building and uncovering. her work explores the balance between control and chaos. strong forms and clear lines create structure, while layers of paint reveal changes, memories, and the passage of time. these layered surfaces act as a stand-in for history, slowing the viewer down and encouraging close attention.

process plays a central role in laura’s practice. she allows marks to remain rather than correcting them, leaving evidence of change and uncertainty. each painting shows traces of what has been added, removed, and reworked, reflecting the way memory shifts over time and distance.

laura’s preferred mediums are acrylic paint, spray paint, oil sticks, and pastels. she uses colour and texture intuitively, often working with intensity until the painting reaches a delicate balance. her work reflects themes of longing and reconstruction, carrying the emotional pull of places left behind.
