Laurellen works in oil & acrylic paint on canvas as well as silk cut lino, silk screen, photography, digital media and sculpture.
Laurellen studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art Education at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW. Her passion for travel (having travelled extensively through South East Asia as a child) led her to explore America, the UK and Europe.
During her years overseas she gained much stimulus to further ignite her creativity and studied graphic design, advertising and layout at the London College of Printing.
In Australia, Laurellen has always taken great inspiration from the coastal environment of the Northern Beaches of Sydney where she resides. Her works capture the patterns of nature, organic forms, her connection with the sea and its plethora of creatures, landscape and the environment with an oriental influence. Painting and relief printing and sculpture have enabled her to bring her strong and playful visions to canvas, paper and 3D forms.
Laurellen has a flair for design which is exposed through the motifs and patterns within her compositions. She has been compared to Preston with her clean line and bold shape. Her work pushes the chosen medium, producing fresh, exciting works.
Laurellen has hung in boutique galleries across the Northern Beaches & Eastern Suburbs since 1998. Galleries such as, Palm Beach Gallery, Palm Beach, Avalon Art Gallery, Avalon Beach, Soda Gallery, Avalon, Tap Gallery, Darlinghurst, Moda Gallery, Bondi Beach, Frances Keevil Art Gallery, Double Bay and The Art House, Sydney.
She has been exhibiting in larger shows and producing commissioned works since her return from overseas in 2002. Her works adorn walls both nationally and internationally. Laurellen has sold many stunning works in all mediums which have joined elite collections in London, Europe and New York. Laurellen has a range of regular clients both private & corporate with whom she works.
Laurellen has now as of 2021, teamed up with her sister Rachelle Braund and they have collaborated on their latest series of works. Rachelle is an experienced artist and designer in her own right and is likewise inspired by the coast and the emotion of the water as she too lives on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Stunning works have come from this amazing artist duo. You will see that in this new series, some works are signed by Lauyrellen and others by Rachelle depending had more of a hand in each work.
