Sandbar at low tide

This artwork depict the calm of a low tide sandbar. Clear skies, waves gently lapping at your feet as you search the shore and shallows for seashell treasures. Baby whiting are feeding in the shore breaks, you may even spy some pipi's dancing along the surface, or at the very least their little mounds breaking the sands smooth surface. The breeze is blowing your hair across your face, but for just this moment you are free as a seagull diving for its dinner.

Low tide is magic at the beach, like for a moment everything just stops and takes a breath, then soon enough the tides push back in for the next round, swallowing everything in its path, and for a few hours the sandbar is gone.

Raised on North Stradbroke Island, and still a Redlands Coast local, Lauren is a lover of all things coastal, marine and outdoors, as such, her work takes inspiration from the colours in nature, shapes and contrasts of the natural environment. Trained in civil engineering, Lauren also brings elements and structure from the built environment into her work. She aims to bring the warmth and calm of the coast into every piece.
