Artwork Description

From my, “Once Upon A Table” series, “Woolies Mudcake” needs no introduction being the quintessential Australian celebration cake, with a bright orange reduced sticker of course.

The Woolies Mudcake has been a solid part of my culinary experience as both a child and an adult. In our household these were reserved for special occasions, and we were only allowed a slither. When I got my first part time job in a shopping centre, to my delight I discovered that of an afternoon the muddies would be on markdown, so I would buy one, and no word of a lie I would eat the whole thing.

I wanted to pay homage to my fave snack by emphasizing it’s glossy plastic container house, giving it an angelic-like glow that appears to be heaven sent. The background is a bright, almost jarring composition that I instinctually create out of emotion.

This unique and quirky artwork really packs a punch with colour and a dash of humour, and would suit a quirky and Australian-nostalgic collector in their kitchen, dining, or anywhere that needs a spark of joy.

Upon purchase of this artwork, it will be professionally printed using archival inks and paper, ensuring a quality and statement piece for your home. My digital artworks are never reprinted, so this piece will belong to you only. This is an A1 size and is easily framed.

Artist Bio

Hi, I’m Lauren M, and a big thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio.

I’m an artist from Toowoomba, Queensland and I’m a mother to two equally crazy and creative kids. I work part time as a support worker and love being a part of the disability community.

I work in both digital media and oil paint - such opposing mediums I know, but both serve a purpose to bring to life the artwork I create.

I am inspired by the modern Australian narrative, but it’s not usually the flora and fauna, as beautiful as it is. I am more interested in subjects that invoke a memory or emotion from my childhood.
I paint and create what captures my attention - these subjects are typically overlooked, childlike objects that invoke a memory or emotion. These subjects are expressed in the pop art genre, where I can inject humour and a bright colour pallette, although lately I am finding myself dabbling in the contemporary still
life genre.
