Artwork Description

From my, “Once Upon A Table” series, “Yeah Nah, Nana” is my childhood memory and response to the dodgy banana found in my lunchbox, and the eye rolling phrase, ‘just eat around it’ that echoes in my brain relating to my mothers half arsed response to the clearly rotten bits on the forsaken Nana.

As I’m older now and having to adult myself and deal with some serious childhood trauma, it’s is memories like this that paradoxically heal some of the grief. My way of dealing with pain and discomfort is to lend some humour and wit on the things that have troubled me. Thus, Yeah Nah, Nana gives my rotten banana a chance to have the spotlight and bear the brunt of my sarcasm.

Yeah Nah, Nana is a digital artwork that has been printed using UV safe safe inks on a durable and long lasting plastic composite, and housed in a sleek, lightweight aluminum frame. I have also painted in the geometric background and embellished the banana with more depth and colour using fine art acrylic paint, resulting in an artwork that is full of colour and movement. I also never reprint my digital artworks, so what you have will be exclusively yours.

My Once Upon A Table series is a collection of kitchen foods and items to incite a feeling of joy, humour and nostalgia. These images are from my childhood memories and are a way of me connecting with, understanding and ultimately healing from the childhood trauma I experienced.

Artist Bio

Hi, I’m Lauren M, and a big thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio.

I’m an artist from Toowoomba, Queensland and I’m a mother to two equally crazy and creative kids. I work part time as a support worker and love being a part of the disability community.

I work in both digital media and oil paint - such opposing mediums I know, but both serve a purpose to bring to life the artwork I create.

I am inspired by the modern Australian narrative, but it’s not usually the flora and fauna, as beautiful as it is. I am more interested in subjects that invoke a memory or emotion from my childhood.
I paint and create what captures my attention - these subjects are typically overlooked, childlike objects that invoke a memory or emotion. These subjects are expressed in the pop art genre, where I can inject humour and a bright colour pallette, although lately I am finding myself dabbling in the contemporary still
life genre.
