Min Min is the name given to these lights, as Min Min is a place near Boulia, which is where the the first sighting of these lights was recorded in 1918. According the Indigenous Artist Chern'ee Sutton, the lights as a naturally occurring phenomenon which have been absorbed into the aboriginal folklore for hundred of years in the Kalkadoon tribal near Mount Isa.
