Artwork Description

This work references the wrestle, the choice to yield, to humble oneself, and the consistency of this practice. Over and over, the choice to yield is represented by a bowing, altar-shape - under fire, under glory, through monotony - all at once a reflection of the covering that was keeping me. What may, from the outside, seem monastic or solitary is actually more accurately a picture of vital connection.

I use only top quality artist's paints, mediums and canvas. 'Monastery' has been finished with several coats of protective varnish, and professionally framed in an oak shadow box frame.

Artist Bio

Hello, I’m Leah, and am delighted to present my most recent works here on Bluethumb.

I am an abstract and portrait artist living on the Sunshine Coast, Australia, with my husband Graham and our three wonderful boys.

I am in a season where painting abstracts is driving my creative expression. However, I have experience in portraiture and print work as well. I am most drawn to the representation of life as a myriad of stories, moments, and markers. I am most interested in representing these elements in my work using colour, shape, line and energy. There is a topographical element to my work. Landmark shapes such as mountains or valleys, barriers or well-trodden paths. The proximity of blurred lines and heavy strokes, delicate contours and bold colours infer the myriad of decisions, events, conquests and failings that make up the human experience. Rarely do my works sit in the background; they are more often statement pieces that draw the eye and the imagination.
