I have been making art for nearly thirty years. My favourite subjects are the human figure and faces, lines and the grid.
Most of my work is done on paper or textiles which are 'gentler' supports compared to canvas. I enjoy working with wax because it is a tactile material. My inspiration comes from observing the graceful rhythms of line, shape, and form in the natural world. Ideas from Eastern spiritual traditions influence my work.
My formal training in art began in Singapore. I went on to do a BA in Art with RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) and a Masterโs in Visual Art with La Trobe University. I am now based in Melbourne.
Making art is a meditative activity to me. The repetitive and rhythmic process of mark-making helps to still my mind. Improvisation and intuitive engagement are important aspects of my process. I work 'collaboratively' with my tools and materials, meaning I try to bring out the best of their natural characteristics.
My artworks tend to be quite understated. I hope they will appeal to some art viewers and provide pleasure and respite in their homes.
