I have a family of laughing kookaburras that visit my own garden. This is a painting I have done using one of my own reference photos taken of the youngest kookaburra in the family who I have named Frances. I loved the look of the linen against the kookaburra colours so decided to keep the linen background plain and just focus on the kookaburra. Painted in acrylics with two coats of satin varnish to protect the painting. Framed in raw Tasmanian oak, this painting is ready or hang or with the depth of 5.5cm it can also sit on a shelf.
My name is Leanne and I live in Sydney. I have a special interest in birds, Australian birds in particular. I am lucky enough to be surrounded by a lot of birds in my own garden where I find a lot of my inspiration. While I did study visual arts at University and was able to explore many different mediums, my major at University was actually in metal work. Years after working in the jewellery industry I have returned to my love of creating two-dimensional art using coloured pencils and acrylic paints.
