The New York streets always reminded me in a strange way of the wild west, not only for their reckless lawlessness but the sense of being down at the bottom of a canyon. I was attracted to this view as the linear perspective is a great challenge for a painter, and I wanted to capture the sense of journeying that is so much part of the New York spirit.
