La Serenissima

Venice must hold a special place in the imagination of any visual artist, given that the whole city is practically an artwork itself. Rather than take on the grand vistas, about which artists like Canaletto and Bellini have pretty much said the last word, I chose to paint this little jewel of a house in a working class quarter, well off the tourist trail. The glowing colours really attracted me for the chance it gave me to show that architecture (and art) doesn’t have to be grand to be beautiful.
