Artwork Description

Ardour is an exploration of warmth, depth and atmospheric luxury, expressed through a richly layered abstract composition.

From the outset, I was drawn to a palette that felt both grounded and indulgent. Deep notes of chocolate, cinnamon, clay and walnut began to form a sense of intimacy, while burgundy and dark earth created a foundation that holds the work with strength. As I worked, gestures of white, amber and steel blue moved across the surface more instinctively, bringing light and contrast, and allowing the composition to shift and open.

There is a tension within Ardour that I kept returning to. Passion, for me, is rarely fleeting. It is something sustained, something that builds and settles over time. That feeling found its way into the layers, held within the structure of the piece and revealed through each mark. I allowed space for both intention and instinct to guide the process, so the work could feel resolved while still carrying energy.

My practice has always been centred on how colour and form can shape the way a space feels, and Ardour reflects that. It has the ability to anchor a deeper, more tonal interior, or to bring warmth and presence into a lighter setting. It is a piece that continues to reveal itself, depending on the light, the space and the moment.

Measuring 120 x 120cm, Ardour is framed in a chocolate timber float frame and painted with premium acrylic on 12oz cotton duck canvas.

It is signed on both the front and back and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, ready to find its place within a thoughtfully considered space.

Artist Bio

Lee J Morgan is an Australian abstract artist whose work explores the emotional relationship between colour, movement and space. Based in north-western Sydney, Lee has developed a distinct visual language grounded in intuitive mark-making, layered textures and atmospheric palettes that evoke stillness, reflection and emotional resonance. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, her large-scale compositions balance softness and energy, creating works that feel both expansive and deeply personal.

Although Lee has painted throughout her life and spent many years working across the creative industries, it was in 2024 that she formally emerged onto the contemporary art scene with her debut solo exhibition, Ember, in Sydney. The exhibition introduced collectors and designers to her immersive abstract works, immediately drawing attention for their scale, tonal complexity and emotional depth. Her practice quickly gained momentum, leading to her selection as the first Australian artist to be featured by ArchiPro, recognised within the architecture and interior design community for artists shaping contemporary spaces.

Lee’s process is highly physical and intuitive. Often working directly with her hands across the canvas, she builds layers of movement and texture that reflect both spontaneity and restraint. Her works are designed to transform interiors through mood and atmosphere, encouraging moments of pause while bringing warmth, calm and visual rhythm into a space. Influenced by colour psychology, natural tonal harmonies and emotional memory, her paintings sit at the intersection of fine art and interior experience.

Since her debut exhibition, Lee has continued to build a growing national presence. In 2025, she exhibited at The Other Art Fair Melbourne and later participated in the Pulse Exhibition with Art Lovers Australia. Her work has also been featured across Australian media and design publications including Love It or List It Australia, Selling Houses Australia, Grand Designs Australia Magazine and Home Design.

Recent exhibitions and features include Minimalist Maximalist (2026), Saturation (2026) and a feature presentation of the Decanter Collection with ArchiPro. Lee was also recognised in 2026 as a notable Australian artist to watch, reflecting the growing interest in her emotionally driven abstract practice and her contribution to contemporary Australian interiors.
