Artwork Description

I found a group of juvenile stingrays sunning themselves in the shallows of Port Phillip Bay. I loved how they emerged on top of shallow rocks to have a look at what was happening in the other world. The light penetrating the shallows inspired me to photograph and then try to capture the refracted light in paint.

Artist Bio

Hi all,

My name is Leif Winberg. I'm located in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

Apart from enjoying art classes during my high school years, I am self taught and learning a lot as I go.
I re-started my journey into the world of painting in January 2021, partly to inspire some creativity in a life occasionally burdened by the routine of a full time career, and I have been very pleased and inspired by the results.
Using oil paints on board and canvas at this stage. Most of my works are framed and ready to hang.

I am not sure if I have a goal in mind for my art, I just really enjoy the creativity and am inspired to learn and experiment.
As a passionate science nerd I have a love of capturing biology in form, and physics in reflections and refractions of light. I'm certainly interested in presenting realism over abstract in my art at this stage.

Who knows how this lineage will evolve

Leif.
