Afternoon Calm

This watercolour monoprint is strongly influenced by my love of the beach. The relaxed composition and softened forms reflect my connection to the coastal environment. In the luminous blues of the ocean, warm sandy hues, and sky, I endeavoured to convey the comfort I find being near the sea. Through the loose mark making, I wanted to convey not just the appearance of the beach, but the calm, restorative feeling it holds for me.

Leonie is a Queensland artist who explores a range of themes, predominantly the landscape. She completed her study in Visual Art at the Brisbane College of Art and continued her education becoming a Visual Art teacher. Leonie has exhibited her work at gallery spaces throughout Brisbane. In her practice she concentrates on painting and drawing but also explores printmaking and mixed media. She is inspired by her natural surroundings, usings vibrant colours to interpret nature. Leonie’s work focuses on colour, form and the emotional impact of the landscape and her connection with it.
