Whispers of the Sea 1

Whispers of the Sea 1 was inspired by my family's love of the beach. This work is a mixed-media piece combining etching and embroidery cotton. It features two trochidae seashells. Both shells are accentuated with red embroidery cotton that outlines their shapes and adds texture. The red stitching also extends outward in wavy lines, creating a sense of movement and continuity beyond the shells themselves. The interplay between the etched lines and the tactile embroidery adds depth and contrast to the composition

Leonie is a Queensland artist who explores a range of themes, predominantly the landscape. She completed her study in Visual Art at the Brisbane College of Art and continued her education becoming a Visual Art teacher. Leonie has exhibited her work at gallery spaces throughout Brisbane. In her practice she concentrates on painting and drawing but also explores printmaking and mixed media. She is inspired by her natural surroundings, usings vibrant colours to interpret nature. Leonie’s work focuses on colour, form and the emotional impact of the landscape and her connection with it.
