Lesley is a multidisciplinary artist, community arts facilitator and mindful art coach based in south-east Tasmania, who has been practicing expressive visual arts for more than 30 years.
Beginning her career as a fine arts printmaker, Lesley established and managed her own studio gallery in the town of Pinjarra, WA, before developing an expansive practice encompassing public art, community arts, cultural development, mixed media, mindful art coaching and event management. Her work has included collagraph and monoprints, paintings, drawings, mosaics, aerosol murals, ceramics, sculpture and digital storytelling.
Over her career, Lesley has undertaken a range of leadership, management and advisory roles, including Arts and Promotions Director at the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts in Western Australia, CANWA Art Grants assessment panelist and member of the Peel Cultural Advisory Panel.
Today, Lesley’s fulltime practice is centred on creative health, expression and wellbeing. Influenced by her own wellness journey, she explores the relationship between creativity, mindfulness, the mind-body connection and the restorative qualities of the natural environment.
Her mixed media abstract works incorporate handmade inks and pigments created from locally sourced Tasmanian plants, soils and organic materials. Alongside these works, her figurative abstracts explore the complexities of feminine power, gender inequity, suppression and submission, sexual exploitation; inviting reflection on identity, vulnerability and embodied experience.
