One of my favourite things to do in this world is to paint portraits. The never ending endeavour to capture the dewy texture of flesh pulls me in every time. I have included an image of the work in progress which marks the point I became excitedly happy about the direction the portrait was heading. The peachy pink palette in this enigmatic portrait, together with the floral imagery will add a beautifully feminine touch to any space.

A Merino ram is beautifully displayed on a pastel blue/lilac background. A flock of merino sheep, heavily laden with their beautiful wool, are waiting for their turn to be shorn in the sheep yards attached to the shearing shed at Poolbrook Station, Nullamanna NSW (near Inverell). The poised attitude of the head reminds me of the graceful silhouette of a Modigliani portrait with the colour and exotic nature of Gaugin's Tahiti paintings. The figure is painted in oils using alla prima (wet-on-wet) technique on a ground of pale blue and lilac acrylic wash. This artwork is my first experiment incorporating some fluorescent paint into a composition—here in the shape of a single stroke which balances the dark mass of the subject's hair. This painting depicts the western fall foothills of the Great Dividing Range in NSW, Australia. Painted in an en pleine air style, quickly laying down thicker oils over a magenta oil wash ground.
