The Central Coast has always been a second home for me, away from the high-energy environment of Sydney. I have a lot of memories around there, and their beaches have always been a source of inspiration for artists.
This piece was done from a reference photo I had taken from the top of Terrigal Beach’s lookout, on a hot day back in the Summer of 2021. I had taken a quick drive there to spend the day walking around the town.
My goal for the painting was to exercise my ability to make confident stroke decisions and restrain from getting caught up in the detail. I wanted to capture the image quickly and boldly, pushing the colours to reflect the vibrancy of the day. For any fan of Australia’s beaches, or lover of the Central Coast in NSW, this piece would be a great reminder of its beauty.
