Artwork Description

In 2023 I exhibited Being among trees, exploring the interdependence that shapes our life with trees recognising the trees as a community surrounding me in my studio every day. In doing so I began to understand the experience of risk and power that shapes the way I live both with trees and with other people. More recently my work considers how trees recover after life altering events. Learning how trees respond to the trauma of fire, flood or human intervention, attunes me toward the creative life of emanation within the landscape, and focusses my attention on the recovery stories I need to hear. In this piece I see the work of emanation within the landscape creates connection and unexpected opportunities for recovery and rejuvenation.

Artist Bio

My art making practice is a means to explore the questions of meaning and existence that provoke wonder and thus capture my attention. Within the studio I am seeking to discover ideas, images and experiences that will extend the way I think, perceive and respond to the questions. Within my practice, I am increasingly aware of an experience of mutuality that exists within the practice of making, seeing and being with art. Art is so much more than a resource to be mastered or manipulated in the communication of an idea. In fact, the important thing is not what I can do with art, but what art can do with me. May it be so, for those who are drawn to take the time to see, and be with, my art.
