In taking up the invitation to explore what it is like to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly in this way, I chose to work with graphite and chalk on one board over time. This practice enabled me to hold different ideas lightly, erasing and wiping away images as they became increasingly complex and obtuse. The work you see today represents the place in which I have paused from making, to step back and begin to see the nature of the work described in this scripture, as it discloses itself in the image. A force of energy in the arc of these chalk lines has emerged and rests upon the surface of submerged layers of graphite. The history of these marks seems to call forth a new shape, a new way to see and know is what it is like, to be and live like this. In this way, these three things are one.
