This piece is, of course, inspired by Lesley Hornby, aka Twiggy. The turquoise background is intended to reminisce on the work of Andy Warhol and his focus on figures in popular culture. The subject appears to break away from the center of the face, symbolising the humanity and imperfection within a person idolized by so many. Breaking up the monochromatic background with the black and white figure disrupts our assumptions on the presentation of celebrities.
This was such a freeing piece to create. Going from traditional techniques to the use of more abstract shapes and free brushstrokes really broke from the norm and contributed to this very unique take on an extremely familiar face. This work is so versatile - but with its gorgeous turquoise background, it would make an excellent centerpiece to any room.
