Artwork Description

‘Black & Turquoise’ is a bold yet harmonious exploration of contrast and depth, created using my signature hatched painting technique. The interplay between the deep black tones and vibrant turquoise evokes a sense of mystery and movement, much like the ocean at night, where moonlight catches the shifting waves. The addition of a gold leaf accent brings warmth and luminosity, highlighting areas of the composition where light seems to dance across the surface.

This piece was inspired by the way colors interact in nature—how shadows enhance brilliance and how gold, like the sun’s reflection, can transform an entire landscape. It is a striking statement piece, perfect for lifting a space with its rich contrast and shimmering details. Whether placed in a modern interior or a cozy, curated setting, ‘Black & Turquoise’ adds a touch of sophistication and energy.

Created with high-quality acrylic paints on a professionally stretched 400x400mm canvas, this artwork is finished with a protective gloss to enhance its depth and vibrancy. The gold leaf accent catches the light beautifully, ensuring that the painting shifts in appearance depending on its surroundings.

Artist Bio

Lillian Beales is a contemporary abstract artist based on the Gold Coast, Australia. Originally from South Africa, she immigrated with her family in 2019, bringing with her a lifelong fascination with color, light, and texture. From an early age, Lillian was drawn to large-scale art as a way to immerse herself in vibrant, expressive creations, allowing her to translate emotions and experiences onto canvas.

Her work is distinguished by intricate hatched-line layering, creating a confetti-like effect of color and texture. Using acrylic paint, gold leaf, copper, and resin gloss, she builds dynamic compositions that shift with light, evoking movement and depth. Inspired by the natural world, her paintings often reflect topographical views of waterways, the fluidity of the ocean, and the refraction of light through glass.

Lillian’s 'Refraction' series explores the perception of color as it bends and transforms, much like how light dances across water. Her largest work, 'All the Light Touches,' draws from the golden hour’s warmth and the beauty of the Tweed River, while 'Susurration' captures the cool, iridescent tones of a Paua shell.

Beyond creating art, Lillian shares her process and inspirations with her growing audience, inviting collectors into the world behind each piece.
Through her work, Lillian aims to evoke feelings of peace, wonder, and connection—allowing viewers to experience the beauty of color and light in new and unexpected ways.
