Artwork Description

‘Black & Yellow’ is a striking exploration of contrast, energy, and illumination, created using my signature hatched painting technique. The bold interplay between deep black and vibrant yellow captures a sense of light breaking through darkness—reminiscent of golden sunlight piercing through stormy skies or the warm glow of lantern light against the night.

This piece is inspired by the duality of strength and vibrancy, shadow and radiance. The gold leaf accent enhances this dynamic, catching the light and adding depth, much like the way sunlit reflections dance on a surface. Its rich contrast and glowing elements make it a compelling statement piece, ideal for brightening a space with warmth and sophistication.

Crafted with high-quality acrylic paint on a 400x400mm professionally stretched canvas, ‘Black & Yellow’ is finished with a protective gloss to deepen its vibrancy. The gold leaf details shimmer subtly, ensuring that the artwork transforms with changing light, making it a captivating addition to any contemporary or eclectic setting.

Artist Bio

Lillian Beales is a contemporary abstract artist based on the Gold Coast, Australia. Originally from South Africa, she immigrated with her family in 2019, bringing with her a lifelong fascination with color, light, and texture. From an early age, Lillian was drawn to large-scale art as a way to immerse herself in vibrant, expressive creations, allowing her to translate emotions and experiences onto canvas.

Her work is distinguished by intricate hatched-line layering, creating a confetti-like effect of color and texture. Using acrylic paint, gold leaf, copper, and resin gloss, she builds dynamic compositions that shift with light, evoking movement and depth. Inspired by the natural world, her paintings often reflect topographical views of waterways, the fluidity of the ocean, and the refraction of light through glass.

Lillian’s 'Refraction' series explores the perception of color as it bends and transforms, much like how light dances across water. Her largest work, 'All the Light Touches,' draws from the golden hour’s warmth and the beauty of the Tweed River, while 'Susurration' captures the cool, iridescent tones of a Paua shell.

Beyond creating art, Lillian shares her process and inspirations with her growing audience, inviting collectors into the world behind each piece.
Through her work, Lillian aims to evoke feelings of peace, wonder, and connection—allowing viewers to experience the beauty of color and light in new and unexpected ways.
