Turning Tides

This piece is all about how light can totally change what we see, how it brings things to life just by shining on them. While painting, I was thinking about bubble cymatics and how oil, water, and energy all behave when they’re mixed together. They don’t really blend, but when they interact, you get these surprising shapes and movements. I wanted to capture that sense of transformation and the way different elements can create something new and unexpected when they come together.

Hi! My name is Lillibet - I'm a self-taught figurative oil painter based in Brisbane, Australia.
I am interested in both the temporal and spiritual worlds. I paint mostly large-scale, symbolic paintings built from rich, layered colour.
I like to explore moments that are hard to name but easy to recognise and relate to when you see it.
My process is intuitive and slow, each painting built up in layers until it sings! And my colour palette leans into gemstone tones. I love working with deep crimsons, rich teals, burnished golds and navy blues.
