Lily Allwell dropped everything last year to start painting, feeling a vital need for creative self-expression in her life.
After working in uncreative, repetitive jobs for several years, returning to art and abstract acrylic painting particularly, felt freeing and joyful.
Lily has loved art since her preschool days finger-painting. Her artistic spirit led to studying at the National Art School, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art.
Lily's new paintings are expressive and flowing, featuring translucent layers, organic forms and intricate linear details.
Creating her works, she combines intentional mark-making using palette knives, with the element of chance to explore possible compositions. She uses low-viscosity acrylic paint mixtures that flow freely over the surface. Lily tilts and spins the canvas to expand and radiate the composition.
She loves the intuitive state of creating, and embraces the energy and fluidity of abstract painting with heart and soul.
