Artwork Description

The heavy use of colour in this painting really draws the eye. The closest lorikeet is brightly coloured and detailed, but bleeds into the rain as it recedes. This scene is quintessential of an Australian storm, where it is common to see lorikeets flying frantically towards shelter. It would make a great centrepiece for a room due to its moody and nostalgic feel.

Artist Bio

I work in a range of mediums, with years of experience in impressionist and realist painting. My aim when painting is not just to achieve accuracy, but to create a striking piece that couldn’t be replaced with a photo. I like to think that I’m not only painting the way something looks, but the way it feels.

My paintings often have a narrative element because I alter the contrast, framing and colour of a subject to emphasise its defining features. In my practice, I have been known to combine multiple reference photos to really capture the subject. I also tend to use strong tonal values and multiple layers to create depth.

I love painting portraits because I believe that how a person holds themselves can reveal a lot about their character. I also love painting landscapes, animals, and surrealist pieces.
